Dansville- Dale H. Johnson, age 83, passed away at home late Tuesday evening April 7, 2026, following an extended illness.

He was born in Hornell on May 25, 1942, a son of the late Arthur and Elma (Burns) Johnson Sr. He was also predeceased by a daughter Cathleen "Cathy" Johnson, and siblings Beverly Rice and Arthur Johnson Jr. He married Hope Derrenbacher Johnson who survives.

Dale was a US Air Force veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He was a fifty-three-year member of the Daniel Goho Post # 87 of The American Legion and the AMVETS of Hornell. He was a member and past Governor of the Loyal Order of the Moose # 1130 of Dansville and member of the Legion of the Moose. He was a member of the Dansville Fish and Game Club. In his free time, he was an avid student of history, hunter and maintained his home and all the equipment meticulously. He worked as a group leader at Atofina Chemicals (now Arkema, Inc.) in Piffard.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 62 years, Hope, is a son Dale H. Johnson II, two grandsons Alex and Caleb, two sisters Susan (Ed) Shiloh and Sally Duke, Hope's brothers Owen and Charles Derrenbacher, several nieces and nephews, and special family friend Steve Hudock.

At Dale's request no services will be observed. Interment will be in Arkport Cemetery at the convenience of family. Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc. 271 Main St., Dansville. Online memories may be shared at HindleFuneralHome.com
