Sparta- Genevieve Louise Seward (Jean), age 91, passed away July 01, 2025, at home with family and a special caregiver at bedside.
She was born in Wayland NY, on April 17, 1934, a daughter of the late Bertrum and Frances Gilman. She was also predeceased by husband John F. Seward, Sr., a brother Jack (Pamela) Gilman and a sister Joyce Ann (Clayton) Ames.
Jean was a 1951 graduate of Wayland Central School. She graduated from the School of Nursing at the Craig Development Center, Groveland, NY, as a Registered Nurse. She worked at the Dansville Hospital when it was on Main St. Dansville, NY. She held various nursing positions while working for the State of New York, at the Craig Developmental Center and the Finger Lakes DDSO. After retiring from New York State, she worked at several doctor's offices, doing patient input assessments. She was a long-standing member in the T.O.P.S. program, chapter 253.
Surviving Jean are her children John Jr. (Jane) Seward, Janet (Stephen Catalfamo) Bardeen, a brother James (Barbara) Gilman Sr., a sister Judy (Edward) Perkowski, grandchildren John Seward III, Justin (Danielle) Seward, Jared (Willow Greer) Bardeen, great-granddaughters Scarlett and Roux Seward and many nieces and nephews and her dog, Sophie.
Jean will be buried with her mother Frances, in Holy Cross Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held a future date at the family's convenience. Arrangements by Hindle Funeral Home 271 Main St. Dansville NY 14437.
In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to John Seward Jr. 55 Leonard St. Dansville NY 14437. All memorial donations will be sent to the Wayland-Cohocton Central School, to be used as a one-time memorial award to a graduating student going into the nursing field of study.
