Michael Christopher "Snaggle" Halpennny Obituary

Michael Christopher Halpenny “Snaggle”, age 46, passed away peacefully after a valiant 6-year fight on Friday evening, June 27, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him. He was well cared for and cherished in the Transplant Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus by staff who became like family over the last seven months of his battle.

Born on November 21, 1978, he was raised in Dansville by his parents, Bruce and Kathleen Halpenny. He was married on August 28, 2010, to Amanda Acomb Halpenny, the love of his life. Together they welcomed their miracle, Margaret Marie Halpenny, to whom he spoke his last words: “I love you so much, you’re my best friend.”

Mike was an avid outdoorsman who never missed a hunting season. He shared his devotion for the outdoors with his dad, friends, and daughter, who bestowed him the nickname BTH (Big Time Hunter), along with a loom bracelet he wore with equal pride. Mike’s passion for hunting extended to geese, bear, coyote, and of course deer (where he met his soulmate—a true match made in the woods). He was halfway to his grand slam, just two turkeys shy. He loved Florida, especially gator hunting and bow fishing with family and friends. You could frequently find him target shooting with his nephews, nieces, sisters, and cousins.

He enjoyed spending many hours gazing upon the picturesque views from the deck of his and Amanda’s dream home, looking out at the Park and White Horse fields. He shared love, laughter, and memories with friends around glowing bonfires, sipping on a good IPA or glass of scotch, playing Euchre, grilling, and enjoying Sunday dinners at the Acomb’s. If he was relaxing, you would find him watching murder or cooking shows surrounded by his loving pets—past and present—Franklin, Poppy (Yorkies), and his dream dog, Ruger (chocolate/silver Lab).

Mike was fiercely loyal and generous in heart, always making time for his friends and family. He could often be found on his 4-wheeler, snow plowing the driveways of both of his sisters and parents while his nephews rode with him. He enjoyed creating memories during Halpenny Christmases or driving around in his truck, scouting deer with binoculars ready—Margaret and Amanda at his side around the Acomb farm.

Remember him by taking a moment to smile at the hope of watching a Giants game (uninterrupted) next season or venturing into the beautiful woods during bow season, while wearing your hat, sunglasses, and silly bands. When you return, feast on venison spaghetti (don’t forget the garlic salt) with your loved ones around the table and toast Mike with a good beer.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of almost 15 years and his 10-year-old daughter, are his parents, Bruce and Kathleen Halpenny; sisters: Bridey (Jason) Rechichi and Christy Norton; his in-laws: Bill and Julee Acomb; sister-in-law Nina (Aaron) White; brothers-in-law Bryan (Katharine) Acomb and Patrick Acomb; nephews and nieces: Connor, Jackson, Grace, Austin, Liam, Hotchner, and Harper; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, OBC alumni, SICU family, and special friends.

As he requested, there will be a celebration (“party”) of Mike on Saturday, July 19th from 2-6pm at the Dansville American Legion. For those that have the Halp3nnyStrong t-shirts or bracelets, please wear them in his honor.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be mailed for his daughter Margaret’s college fund to 10323 Oak Hill Rd. Arkport, NY 14807.
