Sparta- Ronald W. "Ron" Holbert age 88, passed away early Sunday morning March 30, 2025, at Highland Hospital in Rochester.
He was born in Wayland on March 17, 1937, a son of the late Lee and Arla (Gillmer) Holbert. He was also predeceased by two sisters Elaine "Penny" Hall and Helen Brooks. On April 12, 1958, he was married to the former Barbara Cloran who survives.
Ron was a US Army Reservist and member of the Harris Lee Post # 283 of the American Legion in Livonia for 45 years. He was also a longtime member of the Sparta Center United Methodist Church. Ron and Barb had a Christmas Tree farm on Route 256 in Sparta for many years.
Surviving in addition to his wife of sixty-six years Barb are their children, Ronald (Sheila) Holbert Jr., and James (Alison) Holbert, Vivian (Thomas) Young, Gail (Todd) Kelly, a brother Lee (Jean) Holbert, and a sister Beverly (David) Hart, fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday April 2 at 11:00 am in the Sparta Center Church. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Dansville. Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc. Online remembrances may be left at HindleFuneralHome.com.
