I am heartbroken that Dan has left this physical earth. He had been a neighbor and later a Facebook friend when he moved to Maine. I remember his "running" era and him actually doing marathon mileage consistently several times a week. He said he went through new sneakers, frequently! During our Facebook friendship he was thrilled that the new Battle Street Brewery was in town, so I sent him a glass from there. He, in turn, sent me a glass from his local brewery in Maine, which I still treasure. Building his tiny home was a wonderful lesson in his talents. Our last conversations revolved around him wanting to return to the area and build another tiny home on some land, here. How I wish that could have happened so I could hug him one more time....

Very sorry to here about Dan's passing. He and I were very good friends in high school. As teens we hung out quite often and had a number of good times camping out on some of the Sparta farmlands and woods. Dan was a good friend and great guy to know. He will be missed by many.

I met Dan in Buenos Aires, Argentina in the winter of 99. He was on his way to skiing in Las LeƱas; in Mendoza, on the west side of the country.
10 years later I met him in Lewiston, ME at Jill Owen's home on Thanksgiving. I was now partnered and living with his daughter Nichole in Los Angeles.
That visit I was actually meeting the key members of Nichole's family for the first time.
And it was awesome! We cooked lobsters and played games and laughed a lot. The moment in the picture was the highlight of the visit for me.
When Dan had arrived at Jill's that day I opened the door to see that he had brought 2 guitars with him. During the 10 years since I had met him he had dedicated a lot of his time to mastering the guitar. And knowing that I also played guitar he had chosen to meet me through music. So exciting. And challenging! I could play but I was far from his level and I was rusty and haven't jammed with anyone in a long time.
And when the time came it was wonderful. We jammed for a while switching leads back and forth and had a great time.
I am very thankful to have a photographic memory of this moment that I will never forget.
May you rest in peaceful music Grandpa Dan.

Man, I miss our almost daily emails. I miss the laughter, the music and your friendship. You were one of a kind. We were friends for over 55 years. Can't believe you're gone! Bye old friend.
