Obituary of Dorothy Lou Goodwin-Smith

She was born in Elmira, on October 2, 1931, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Thelma Ruth Cooley Peer. On October 1, 1951, she was married to Jack L. Goodwin, who predeceased her on August 13, 1991. On September 24, 1994, she was married to Sydney Smith who survives. She was also predeceased by a brother Lawrence Peer. Dorothy was a former employee of Dansville Press, The Outdoor Store, and was a Ward Clerk at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville for 19 years retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Dansville United Methodist Church where she was active with the United Methodist Womans group, and had been a den mother for Troup71 of the Cub Scouts. Surviving in addition to her husband Sydney, are six sons, Scott (Marge) Goodwin, of Dansville, Craig (Gina) Goodwin, of Lockport, Kirk (Cheryl) Goodwin, of Sparta, Jack (Tina) Goodwin, of Cohocton, James (Bonnie) Goodwin of Dansville, and Joel (Amy) Goodwin also of Dansville, a step-son Keith (Mamie) Smith of Hamlin two sisters, Norma Babcock of AZ and Verna Clark of Elmira, two brothers David Peer of Horseheads and John Peer of Elmira, fifteen grandchildren, one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc. 271 Main St., Dansville. Services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am at the Dansville United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Stevens officiating. Interment will be next to Jack in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville. Contributions may be made to the Dansville United Methodist Church, 5 Chestnut Ave., Noyes Memorial Hospital, both of Dansville, NY 14437 or the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 2680, N. Canton, OH 44720.
