Dansville- Richard John "Dick" Applin age 93, passed away Saturday afternoon July 1, 2017, at Highland Hospital in Rochester.

He was born in Dansville on February 3, 1924, the son of the late John and Clara (Fox) Applin. He was also predeceased by a sister, Beulah Perry, a son-in law, Richard Marsden, and nephews James, Thomas, and Ryan Perry.

Dick was a graduate of St. Mary's Parochial School and later Dansville High School. He then served with the US Army Air Corps during WWII from 1943 to 1946 as an airplane engine mechanic. Dick was a sales representative for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company where he retired from in 1990 after 34 years of dedicated service. Dick was a bus driver for LAT'S for fifteen years. He was active in the Village of Dansville Government having served as Village Trustee for twenty years, Vice Mayor for four years, and was the Zoning Officer for the Village of Dansville and the Town of North Dansville for over ten years respectively. He was a lifelong Communicant of the Holy Family Catholic Community at St. Mary's Church in Dansville. Dick was a fifty plus year member of the Notre Dame Retreat House on Canandaigua Lake. A life member of the Daniel Goho Post # 87 of The American Legion, where he served as Commander in 1955 and was active with the Firing Squad at military funeral and veteran's holidays. A life member of the James H. Jackson Hose Company of the Dansville Fire Department.

He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Marsden of Hamlin, several nieces and nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc. 271 Main St., Dansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church in Dansville. Interment with full military honors will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dansville. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Firing Squad at the Daniel Goho Post of The American Legion Dansville. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hamlin, or Emertus@Landing of Brockport.
