Obituary of Ruth Naomi Cotie

Dansville- Ruth Naomi Cotie age 81, passed away early Monday morning November 7, 2016 in Rochester. She was born in Buffalo on December 31, 1934, a daughter of the late Edward and Agnes (Mac Isaac) Powers. On July 16, 1953, she was married to Gordon Cotie, who predeceased her on October 6, 2003. She was also predeceased by a brother Edward Powers. She was a member of various Jehovah's Witness Congregations over the years: South Buffalo, NY; Newark, NY; Fairport, NY; Wayland/Dansville, NY; Bath, NY and Greece, NY She loved her God, Jehovah, the Truth found in God's Word the Bible She was an avid reader, she loved geography, history & trivia, old movies and wholesome TV shows. She read the newspaper every day and certainly could talk on almost any subject. She was a tremendous movie & TV show buff. As a matter of fact, the former entertainment reporter for WHAM1180 radio and The Rochester D&C, Bill Klein would get regular calls or notes from Ruth & that would mean he usually got something wrong. He would Say " 'Ruth from Wayland' just called and reminded/corrected me about..." She liked to travel to England and Scotland and loved the autumn season. She loved family camping trips and even went on some canoe trips into the back country of Canada and the Adirondacks After her husband of 50 years, Gordon, died in 2003 sometimes she would just jump in her car and just drive until she found an interesting place to stop and visit or learn about. She loved telling jokes or planning ahead little innocent jokes on her friends. She had a strong faith in the Bible's promise of God's Kingdom Rulership (Matt 6:9; Danial 2:44) and a future Earthly Paradise promised at Revelation 21:3,4. She regularly spoke her mind (right or wrong) but you usually knew where you stood with her. She loved watching and rooting for the Buffalo Bills & Sabres She is survived by her children, Cheryl Ruth Van Grol, Gordon Scott (Melinda) Cotie, David Matthew (Allison) Cotie and Barbara Ann Cotie; siblings, Daniel (Barbara) Powers, Katherine (Robert) Gutekunst, Gladys Viterna, and Gloria Schiller; grandchildren, Lindsey-Anne (Sage) Mattison, Paige (Dalton) Sillen, great-granddaughters, Elle and Darcie Mattison. A memorial service will be held Saturday Nov. 12, 2:30pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 349 Main St. in Dansville. Ref., Hindle Funeral Home, Inc. 271 Main St., Dansville.
