Dansville- Laurance Dale Howe Sr., age 83, died on Tuesday November 3, 2015, at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville. He was born in Dansville, on March 24, 1932, the middle child of seven to Otto and Laura (Searles) Howe. He was predeceased by his parents in 1948 and 1985 respectively, also by three of his five children, Kenneth in 1979, Karen in 2001, and Thomas in 2014. Three of his siblings also predeceased him, Violet Teeter, William Howe, and Laura Robinson, as well as his first wife, the mother of his children. On June 6, 1980, he was married to Priscilla Rowe Howe in Amherst, Erie County, and on June 6, 2000, they renewed their wedding vows at a twentieth anniversary celebration with Father Stephen Kraus of St. Mary's Church, Dansville officiating. In addition to his wife of thirty-five years Priscilla, he is survived by two children, Bonnie Jean Howe and Laurance D. Howe Jr., both of Dansville, as well as four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Three siblings also survive, June (Warren) Collier, Charles (Betty) Howe, and Theresa Kenney, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his "best friend" Duncan, his Wheaton Terrier, the love of his life. Laurance served honorably in the US Army stationed with the 6th Armored Calvary of the US Constabulary in Germany as part of the Occupation Army following World War II, at the time of the Korean Conflict. After his military service he operated an auto repair shop in Rochester, and later in Livonia, before building and opening his own auto repair shop on Sandy Hill in Dansville. He was well known and well respected auto mechanic for over 60 years, who's specialty was rebuilding motors and transmissions. Through the years Laurance was active in the Hornell Elks Lodge, the Pittsburg Shawmut R.R. Historical Society, and was a life member of the Daniel Goho Post # 87 of the American Legion. In 2005, he finally received his high school diploma from 1949, fifty-three years late, and after completing his high school requirements while in the Army. This was a highlight of his life. The family of Laurance D. Howe Sr., will receive family and friends at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., in Dansville, on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Dansville. Interment will follow at Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville, NY, with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in his name to the Vincent House in Wayland, NY, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, NY or Noyes Memorial Hospital, Dansville, NY.
