Obituary of John Andrew Sauerbier

Dansville - John Andrew Sauerbier age 64, passed away peacefully at home early Wednesday morning March 25, 2015, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born in Dansville on January 17, 1951, a son of the late Andrew and Dorothy Robards Sauerbier. John was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, landscaping and working on his tree farm. John owned and operated C.W. McNair Nurseries, Inc. on Route 36 in Dansville where he had worked for nearly fifty years. He began his nursery career around 1965, under the careful eye of his late Father – Andrew, before eventually purchasing the business and building it into one of the largest in the Northeast. John was a member of the Dansville Fish and Game Club, the Powers Inn Club, and also an Eagle Scout. Over the years, John has donated many trees to various organizations throughout the community, including the Boy Scouts of America Dansville Troup 38. He was also a long time member of the NYS Nursery and Landscape Association. John is survived by his three sons, Brian of North Carolina, Matthew (Heather) of Florida and Kevin (Dawn) of Albany, a brother, Jim (Ria) Sauerbier of Wayland, a sister, Maureen (Gerald) McInerny of Virginia, two grandchildren, Kinsley and Mason Sauerbier, two step-children, Brianne and David Crittenden of Dansville, several nieces and nephews, his beloved dog Buster and his best friend, Wayne Englert of Dansville, who cared for John during his final days. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Friday April 3rd at the Hindle Funeral Home Inc. 271 Main St. Dansville, where a memorial service will be held on Sat April 4th at 11:00 am.
