Obituary of Joan Carbone Stead

Dansville- Joan Helen Carbone Stead, age 57, passed away unexpectedly June 28, 2014 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was born in Rochester on March 28, 1957, a daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Scheiber) Carbone. She was predeceased by her father Nicholas. On July 18, 1981, she was married o Richard D. Stead who survives. Joan Carbone Stead grew up in Greece, New York with her 4 siblings. She was a loving wife of Richard Stead for 33 years, and mother of 2 daughters, Sarah and Allison. She graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School and went to Buffalo State where she obtained her teaching degree in Home Economics. Joan then obtained her Master’s degree in literacy from SUNY Geneseo. Upon graduation she proceeded to move to Dansville where she was employed as the new Home Economics teacher. There she stayed for 34 years and retired from the Dansville Central School District in 2013. Of course, she could not wait to start her retirement on the right foot by driving around in her Mini Cooper convertible with the top down. Joan enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life, such as cooking, baking, sewing, daily crossword and Sudoku puzzles. The puzzles, she would say, were to “sharpen her mind.” She also loved spending time with her fellow retirees and family as often as possible. She loved her family and friends unconditionally and always put their needs first. Surviving in addition to her husband Dick, are her daughters, Sarah (Brian) Lenhard, Allison Stead; her mother, Mary E. Carbone; siblings, Marybeth (James) DiLiberto Sr., David Carbone, Nicholas (Toby) Carbone, Richard (Adina) Carbone; mother in-law of Marion Stead, brothet and sister in-law, Dave Stead, Julie (Frank) Guillaume; Many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. Friends may call Thursday from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at the Dansville Foursquare Church in Dansville, 49 West Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church in Dansville.
