June F. Owens, 92, a lifelong resident of Dansville, passed away early Thursday morning, April 17, 2014, at Strong Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She had been a resident of Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Morris for the past 17 months. She was born in Geneseo on January 4, 1922, daughter of the late Edwin and Isabelle (Dresser) Kiehle. On November 24, 1944, she was married to Charles Owens who predeceased her on October 26, 2013. June was a secretary for her late husband Charlie’s company, Owens Bros. Trucking in Dansville for many years until their retirement in 1989. She has also worked at the former Blum’s Shoe Factory, Murphy’s 5 & 10 and the Dansville Hospital. She was a life member of the Presbyterian Church of Dansville, where she was active in their women’s group for many years. June enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and doing word puzzles in her spare time in addition to spending time with her family. June and Charlie camped extensively in the United States and Canada when their sons were youngsters. The love of travel and camping continued throughout their lives. They made and maintained many friendships across the country in their years of traveling. Both the traveling and the friendships were a passion for both of them. After retirement June and Charlie enjoyed winters in Arizona and Florida in their Kropf travel trailer. June is survived by three sons, Frank (Lois) of Arkport, Howard (Betty) of Columbia, TN and George (Valerie) of Winterset, IA, fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, a niece, a nephew, a sister Merrilee (Thomas) Kuhn of Dansville and a sister-in-law Bernice Slawson of Charlottesville, VA. Friends may call Monday, April 21 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main Street, Dansville, where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 22 at 11 AM with the Rev. David Hotchkiss officiating. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Groveland. On line remembrances may be left at HindleFuneralHome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dansville Presbyterian Church, Central Park, Danville, NY 14437, the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, 11 Murray Hill Drive, Mt.
