Genevieve “Jenny” Mattie Perkins Linzy, age 87, of 4816 Ossian Hill Rd., passed away Monday, March 10, 2014 at her home of 53 years. She was born in Swain, NY on February 3, 1927, to the late Guy and Susie Perkins. On October 28, 1944, she married Glenn Warren Linzy who predeceased her on December 30, 1999. She was predeceased by brothers Merritt W. “Buster” Perkins and sister-in-law Beverly; Gerald L. Perkins; Harold G. Perkins; Roger W. Perkins and sister-in-law Neva; Elmer J. Perkins and sister-in-law Eloise; and sister-in-law Laura. Jenny was a member of the Home Bureau in Allegany Co., the Bethesda Hospital Auxiliary, Canaseraga Grange, and State Junior Deputy in the Ossian Grange. She was an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Ossian, member of the Board of Sessions, Superintendent of Sunday School, Sunday School And Vacation Bible School Teacher, member of the Town and Country Dept. of the Genesee Valley Presbytery, member of the Ossian Cemetery Assoc., Dansville and Ossian Historical Societies, and Ladies Aux. of Noyes Hospital. In 1961 she joined the Ossian Ladies Aide and was very active for many years. After retiring as a Livingston Co. Home Health Aide she became a tutor for Literacy Volunteers of America in both basic tutoring and English as a Second Language and received the Outstanding Tutor of the Year Award in 2002. Jenny was an avid quilter and enjoyed sharing her knowledge and skills with eager learners and is known for her many unusual collections. She enjoyed playing games, especially Rummikub. Surviving are; three daughters, Janice (Tim) Laine of Columbia, SC; Sharon (Gene) Storey of McDonough, GA; Brenda (Tom) Zaucha of Ft. Wayne, IN. Two sons, David (Diane) Linzy and Tom (Patty) Linzy, both of Rochester, NY. One brother, Basil L. Perkins of Monticello, FL and one sister-in-law, Mary I. Perkins of Jacksonville, FL. Also 6 Grandchildren, 10 Great-Grandchildren, 9 Step Grandchildren, 16 Step Great- Grandchildren and 9 Step Great Great-Grandchildren and many foster children, cousins, nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the family home Friday, March 14 from 2 – 8 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 15 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ossian Presbyterian Church with interment in Ossian Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Ossian Ladies Aide, 10456 Shay Rd., Dansville; Ossian Cemetery Association, 10155 McNinch Rd., Dansville; or the American Cancer Society 1120 South Goodman, Rochester, NY 14620.
