Obituary of Dois W. Quattlebaum

He was born in Trent, TX on September 11, 1925, a son of the late Benjamin Harrison and Odie Lee (Thompson) Quattlebaum. He was also predeceased by predeceased by two sons, Ronald Dean Quattlebaum and Dois Windell Quattlebaum Jr., and siblings, Thelma Martin, Nelda Stoore, Harley, Robert and Leister Quattlebaum. On May 20, 1961 he was married to Pat Barber Quattlebaum, who survives.Dois was a man who liked cowboy boots, a good Western, his dogs, his church, working with his hands, and making things for his friends and family. He resided in Grass Valley from 1997-2007 before moving to Dansville, New York to be near family.Dois began his life in Texas and lived in Arkansas, Colorado, California and finally Dansville, NY. He served his country honorably in World War II in the US NAVY. He then went on to a number of varied jobs (including but not limited to) a bus driver in Little Rock (Arkansas), working in the oil fields of Colorado, General Motors, and security for Hughes Aircraft, owning a Mom 'n Pop grocery store to the director of maintenance and operations for Victor Valley Community College (California). His family will miss his smiles, funny stories and his wonderful sense of humor, and loved him deeply. He was always ready with a story, joke or a helping hand. Surviving in addition to his dear wife Pat, are his daughter, Connie (Tom) Hurlburt of Dansville and his son Kevin (Sandy) Quattlebaum of NC, seven grandchildren, Tamara (Scott) Kenney, Tracy (Jim) Derrenbacher, Tricia (John) May, Tom (Leilah) Hurlburt, Erica Goodrich, Heather & Cody Quattlebaum, twelve great-grandchildren and his devoted dog Ginger.There will be no prior calling hours. A memorial service will be held Friday at 10:00am in the Dansville United Methodist Church, 5 Chestnut Ave., Dansville. Interment will be in Roe Hills Memorial Park in Whittier CA. Ref. Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Vincent House , 310 Second Ave., Wayland, NY 14572, or a charity of choice.
