Dansville- Walter Earl Vogel age 95, passed away peacefully Thursday evening March 30, 2017, at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Morris.
He was born in the town of Wayland, on September 13, 1921, a son of the late Earl E. and Ida Margarett (Eichorn) Vogel. On August 31, 1946 he married Betty Elston who survives. He was also predeceased by a daughter in-law Pamela Vogel, and a grandson Brett Jackman.
Walter lived a full life volunteering his time to help others, he was a builder with Habitat for Humanity for 6 years, and a Volunteer New Life at Sonyea- State Prison for 16 years.
Walter was a farmer and a 1st class millwright at Foster Wheeler Corp. in Dansville. He was very involved at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church serving on the Church Council, Parsonage Committee, and as the Elevette Operator. He was a hardworking man who loved wood working, he built two homes in Sparta, and traveled to every state except New Jersey, Delaware, and Alaska. Walter was also a 50 year member of the Dansville Grange.
In addition to his loving wife of 70 years Betty, he is survived by his children, John (Jo Ann Terwilliger) Vogel, Theodore (Colleen) Vogel, Susan (Richard) Jackman, a brother Charles (Shirley) Vogel, 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 1-4pm Sunday at the Hindle Funeral Home Inc. 271 Main St. Dansville, NY. A funeral service will be held Tuesday 11:00am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Dansville. Interment at a later date in Greenmount Cemetery Dansville. Online remembrances may be left at HindleFuneralHome.com.
