Dansville/Gowanda- John (Johnny) William Nechamer, age 72, passed away Sunday August 22, 2010, at Rochester General Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born in Gowanda, on August 20, 1938, a son of the late John Robert and Mary Oyach Nechamer. He was predeceased by his sister Carol Nechamer.

John had worked at the Glue Factory in Gowanda until 1957, he was employed for 26 years as a Therapy Aid for the Gowanda Psychiatric Center retiring in 1983. After retirement he was employed by New York State as a Senior Companion working both in Gowanda and Dansville. He was a member of the Collins Volunteer Fire Co. a former member of the Helmuth Fire Dept. and enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, doing puzzles and watching western movies.

Johnny is survived by his former spouse, Margaret Holbrook of Dansville; a daughter Joanne (Robert Frew) Nechamer of Dansville; a son, Russell (Beth) Nechamer of Norfolk, Va.; a sister Peggy (Marvin) Luther of Collins; three grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 4th at Noon in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gowanda. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Gowanda. A reception will be held for friends and family at 2 pm at the Collins Volunteer Fire House, Collins, NY.
